What’s involved?
Your first physiotherapy session will be conducted in a private room on a one to one basis with strict confidentiality. You will be asked a series of questions to note your current complaints and we will then ask you a series of questions about any past medical history that is relevant to your complaint.
To assess your problem, we will then be required to examine the affected area in question. (Remember to wear appropriate clothing it’s easier for us as well as you).
If you need a chaperone when you are attending the clinic for treatment then please make us aware of this. You are able to bring a friend or relative with you to your sessions. If you have a preference for either a male or female physiotherapist then please make us aware of this.
Once we have assessed your physical condition we will be in a better position to provide you with an accurate and thorough clinical diagnosis. If your problem requires a specialist consultant opinion, we can make the appropriate steps on the day of your assessment and refer you directly.
The first physiotherapy session can take between 30 and 45 minutes, however there is no extra charge if takes any longer. Providing you are suitable for treatment we shall treat you on the day of you initial examination.
Some more complex problems might require more time. Follow up appointments are usually based on 30 minute appointments, however if needed we can book double appointments if we feel your problem needs more time.
If you need more physiotherapy sessions we will tell you approximately how many. (We do not put you on machines for 20 minutes and treat you for 10 minutes). Our treatment is evidenced based with an emphasis on good manual “Hands on” skills.
Often we use models of joints and muscles involved so that you are clear about what’s going on. This is, in some ways, one of the most important aspects of you first consultation. So ask as many questions as you would like.
In other cases you may only require advice. Rehabilitation is always specific. Therefore programs are tailored to your needs; we always ensure that we have provided you with the necessary understanding of any individual programme of exercises. This ensures you have confidence to continue your recovery outside the clinic environment.
